FOUR WINES TAKE MEDALS IN INTERNATIONAL WINE COMPETITION
Six months after first opening for business as the only urban winery in the Washington D.C./Baltimore region, The Winery at Olney has established itself as an award-winning winery. Four of The Winery’s varietals earned bronze medals in the prestigious 2013 Finger Lakes International Wine Competition. The results were announced today, Wednesday, March 27.
Wineries from all 50 states, 4 Canadian provinces, and 20 countries entered a total of 3,505 different wines in this year’s competition. The Finger Lakes International Wine Competition is the second largest wine competition in the United States.
The Winery at Olney’s bronze medal winners were its For Your Eyes Olney Cabernet Sauvignon, Iridescent Ruby Merlot, NZ Blanc Sauvignon Blanc, and Georgia Avenue Peach Chardonnay. Four of the six wines entered into the competition medaled.
All of the wine entries in the Finger Lakes Competition were evaluated by a world-renowned panel of judges representing distributors, educators, enologists, sommeliers, restaurateurs, winemakers and writers. These diversified experts came from all over the United States and around the world.
Employing the unique business model of locating a fully licensed and operational winery in a retail setting, The Winery at Olney opened its doors to customers the week after Labor Day in September 2012. The Winery is located in the Fair Hill Shopping Center off Maryland Route 108 (Olney Sandy Spring Road) in Olney, Maryland, near the intersection of Georgia Avenue and Route 108.
The Winery at Olney is not connected with any one vineyard, but rather sources its grape products from regions all over the world including Napa Valley, Tuscany, Chile, Washington State, South America, New Zealand and other regions. The Winery produces more than 30 different varietals of wine on site in its 2,400 square foot space.
At The Winery, patrons are able to sample The Winery’s wide variety of wines through wine-tastings at The Winery’s signature tasting bar, enjoy a glass or a bottle in comfortable seating areas, and purchase bottles to-go. Customers can even make their own custom personal batches of wine at The Winery.
